Slowly approaching the coda

while weaving a wondrous melange, a tapestry of sensation, sight, sound, music
taste, language its essential to pause, to absorb and try to grasp the essence of my
experience here in Brazil. It is all compellingly expansive, my soul and mind is bulging, overflowing with
folkloric traditions: a hallucagenic tea mixed with the crushed bones of a recently
passed family member, ground Dolphin sex organs mixed in another tea to give one potency or fertility,
and yet another crushed iguana sprinkled on the food of a straying spouse, to keep
his member listless long enough to drive him mad. The Amazon itself, a symbol for utter wilderness,
paradise, danger, harmony with nature, the first waterfall towards the heart of darkness.
It was near the mouth of the Amazon river on my birthday that I dreamt of being trapped in this earthly plane
of existence, realizing that I would have to wait until I passed over to feel the oneness that I have been
seeking with my soul mate or mates. It was made known to me that I would have to make do with
small wonders, the details of living, loving, music, friendship, food, doing dishes, walking the dog
for a while longer. Also my tears came flowing like oh no a river, yes profoundly deep tears of loss
and longing. My mentor, lover, mother being she was on the other side, appeared to me, And I longed to be able to communicate with my father what she meant to me, more tears came as I realized he would not ever totally comprehend.
I am finally feeling at home here just as I am about to spend my last 2 nights in Sao Paulo and depart
Brazil, another concert with Ana Claudia, Davson, and Ira, Montana and Fabbio Cury.new friends and old friends over the last week. Ana Claudia has worked tirelessly on this project shouldering 99% of the production responsibilities, playing on the CD's and in the concerts as well as financing a good portion of the entire project. Really a remarkable women, and outstanding achievement considering all the obstacles this culture threw at her. Bravissimo!!

Erich, you tried todrink me unter das tables at a local carioca bar, we had a medicinal
drink made from the roots of a fava bean tree that caused me to intersect
with the linking joining motions of atoms as they grasp the hand of their nearest beloved friend before the incense shines into your brain and the sun smells like tommorrow.
I have only to report that all should try it, and engage in this theory, even if there is such a thing.
Discovering the boundrieless borders of Rio's population staggers the breaking heart and
muddles your career. Even though you prayed for such an outcome. You were'nt prepared for a
great german jewish, violinist, married to the 25th daughter of an Arabian drug lord; but they love each
other and have avoided the pitfalls of telling the absolute truth. Much to my happiness
an adoration. Nothing could have said more about the limitlessness of my American dream
coming untrue. But maybe there's hope if you read the barber's adagio Poll, it's Likely to be
yesterdays hidden smile.
I want you all to know how much I deeply am............. being B major.

Erich what was the name of that "medicine" we took last night?
and the Brazilian word for our evening in Rio? I forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you may all correspond (no) Write to me at

Nov 12th, The Cristosoverwhelms. but humans do too.

Hey there
I heard about Ed Bradley's passing and saw a few pieces
about him, but it was Bob Schieffer's comment that rang true.
(Bob is the Anchor Jean Bratman worked with at CBS) He said that not only was Ed briiliant,
dignified, a great interviewer etc. but that he was the coolest man
he ever knew!
I am going over to Eric Lehningers again today, after spening a couple of hours there
yesterday while he and Ira talked about the misunderstood and misinterpreted
original metronone, and how that misinterpretation lead to playing Classical
music at tempos that the old composer never dreamt of. Also they spent a long
time on how an orchestra should interpret a staccato marking over the note, or
underneath the slur. At the end I played my Idoru Piano Trio, And Eric really loved
it, he literally freaked out and said this was the best piece of modern chamber music
he has ever heard, don't worry I'm taking his comment with a grain of salt.
He wants his trio to play it. And by the way his trio is magnificent. I heard their
recording of the Schubert B maj. and it was so moving and powerful, a complete
understanding of the feeling intended, to me it was a revelation. His "Brasilia Trio"
has been together for 30 years. These are the level of musicians I could only hope
for in my wildest imaginings'. At the level of Sharon and Jamies Laredo's trio in the US.

Also I was treated royally over at Mariana Salle's house. I met Marcelo her brother the cellist,
and Lucia the Pianist we went over the parts, they all had great comments and we corrected
little errors. Dinner was prepared by Gael, Mariana's husband who is French and can really cook
well. He is also a Bass player in one of the 3 Orchestras here in Rio. They were warm and kind
and made me feel welcom

Nov 11th & 12th Greetings from Rio

The First night in Rio I spent in a dream world that
was more acutely real than my waking world. Seemly
There was a huge sensuous Brazilian nocturnal party
thrown for me as I got to know all the denizens of this new
realm. Forgive me for talking like this, but this was a profoundly
disturbing experience, something akin to an earthquake, a
deep shift in reality or rather an extending of my current reality
beyond it former borders. That being said, man am I having a wonderful time!

I was warmly greeted by my dear friend, and conductor Ira Levin.
Today he is conducting an all Mozart Program with the OSB Orchestra.
This morning I am having the first meeting with members of the
Piano Trio who will perform and record my " Idoru" Trio early in 2007.

12 hours before Blast off!

Ok here we go just trying to get this blog thing going,
I extremely happy this morning because it's the morning
after the elections and there's seems to have been a fundamental change
overnight. A majority of Americans have voted to shift
the balance of power to the democrats. A Powerful rebuke to the
Bush administration.( By the way, I had a dream last night
that Donald Rumsfeld was short changing me on my pay check.
boy was I outraged!).
I for one am not in love with war, but believe in the
possibility of Peace. I believe our most
important goal as inhabitants of this planet is to learn
and practice tolerance.
Good to be starting a trip to another country with the voice of
the American people so clearly apparent as to their wishes.
